What is the purpose of APEL.A?

APEL.A is defined as a systematic process involving the identification, documentation, and assessment of prior experiential learning, including knowledge, skills, and attitudes, to determine the extent to which an individual has achieved the desired learning outcomes. This serves as a pathway to gain access to a study program and/or the awarding of credits.

    • Doctorate Level (APEL T-8)
  • The APEL certification can only be used by applicants for the purpose of furthering their studies at Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). It is not a qualification equivalent to academic programs offered by HEIs. Additionally, the APEL certificate cannot be used for employment purposes.

    For example, an APEL certificate for the Master’s level (Level 7) can only be used to apply for admission into an HEI to pursue studies at the Master’s level. It is not equivalent to a Master’s degree awarded by an HEI.
  • Generally, the APEL.A certificate can be used by applicants to pursue further studies at Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in any desired field.

    For Doctorate-level applications (APEL T-8), the fields offered are listed at the following link: Fields of APEL (Level 8).

    However, for study programs that are subject to evaluation by professional bodies, the admission requirements and criteria are determined by the respective professional body
  • Candidates who pass the APEL.A assessment can pursue their studies either on a full-time or part-time basis.

    For the APEL.A certificate at the Master’s level (APEL T-7) and Doctorate level (APEL T-8), the permitted study modes are as follows:

    • Coursework mode
    • Mixed mode
    • Research mode
